Stargazing at the Griffith Observatory

May 03, 2018

We’re always heading straight for the stars at the Griffith Observatory. This L.A. landmark is southern California’s dreamy gateway to the cosmos where visitors can study telescopes, explore exhibits, and enjoy all things galaxy. Each month, the observatory hosts free public star parties where friends and family can come together to spot the sun, moon, visible planets, and all the constellations our evening sky has to offer—and there’s a lot! This month’s star show is on May 19, and visitors can try out a variety of telescopes and speak about what to spot in the sky with amateur astronomers from various groups including the Los Angeles Astronomical Society, the Los Angeles Sidewalk Astronomers, and the Planetary Society. Visiting the Observatory at night not only provides stargazers with an expansive view of the night sky but also an incredible view of the bright, bustling downtown in the City of Angels.
